Next Star Wars Imperial Assault Expansion Announced: Bespin Gambit
I’ll admit it: when Star Wars Imperial Assault was announced, I was pretty much dead set on getting the expansions and the heroes that come in separate packs. I’ve already gotten Han Solo and Chewie. I’ve already gone after C3PO and R2D2 and Boba Fett. And when I’m ready to put in an order, I’ll be getting the Hoth expansion set along with Leia Organa. So with all the expansions that have been brought to bear, I knew it’d be a matter of time before Fantasy Flight would release a Bespin expansion along with some hero packs which include one of my favorite characters: Lando Calrissian.
Needless to say, I’m pretty excited. Based on Fantasy Flight’s website, The Bespin Gambit will be a mini campaign with about half the number of missions as the regular campaign; a perfect setup for people who have a bit of difficulty getting a group of Imperial Assault players together. On top of that, the scenarios take place on Bespin, better known to most Star Wars laypeople as the planet where Cloud City is located.
Like with most other expansions, The Bespin Gambit will include new tiles, many of which will portray Cloud City’s walkways and guest quarters. There will also be the addition of two new heroes: Murne Rin, an Ithorian intelligence master and Davith Elso, rogue-like Force user.
But the thing that gets me even more excited about this expansion is the inclusion of Lando Calrissian, whose roguish tendencies make the interactions between him and Han very enjoyable to watch during the Star Wars movies. Seeing that I want to get the main characters from the original trilogy, he’s definitely someone I’ll pick up.
The second character that I’ll be looking forward to is Bossk, a Trandoshan bounty hunter. I’m mostly going to get him because I know how deadly Trandoshan hunters are in the Imperial Assault Core set. Having a named Trandoshan hunter character can only mean more fun. And since I mostly play the Empire in my Imperial Assault game, I gotta find ways to torment the Rebels, right?
If all goes well, Fantasy Flight will be releasing this set in the second quarter of 2016. Whether this timeline is too aggressive remains to be seen, but I’ll be looking forward to this set regardless.
